Iris Kinnard, former director of the Center for Academic Programs, died July 7, 2009.

Kinnard was a strong believer in educational opportunity for low income and first generation students, and made every effort to help these students since she began working with the ConnPEC program in 1967 until she retired in 1991.

In lieu of gifts at her retirement, Kinnard ask that a fund be established that would help students cover immediate costs, such as books. She continued to make her own contributions to this fund throughout her retirement.
