Audrey Jarrelle, associate professor emeritus of family studies, died Oct. 16, 2009, in Orange, Va., from ovarian cancer. She was 65.

Jarrelle joined the UConn faculty in 1967. She taught a wide variety of courses in the area of Textile and Apparel, including Basic and Advanced Textiles, Testing and Evaluation, Textile and Costume History, and Apparel Construction and Tailoring.

She published three textile laboratory manuals at the University. During her last 10 years at UConn, she was associate dean of the School of Family Studies, working with undergraduate students. Upon her retirement in 1997, a scholarship for undergraduate students was established in her name.

Jarrelle was a member of the Internal Textile and Apparel Association and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. She also was a member of several honorary societies including Kappa Omicron Nu and Phi Kappa Phi, serving as President of that organization at UConn. In 1996, she was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
