Robin Bogner, associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences, has been selected as the recipient of the Ralph Shangraw Memorial Prize. This international award is given annually for excellence in research focused on excipients, and is given by the International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council. An excipient is an inert substance used as a vehicle for a drug. Bogner received the prize in November 2009.

Bogner also received the Vanguard Leadership Award at a recent meeting of the Lambda Kappa Sigma international professional pharmacy fraternity in Hartford. The award is given annually to a member of the fraternity who has made sustained, exemplary contributions in her/his area of professional practice, and/or in professional associations, regulatory boards, and in the community, emphasizing service to others, innovations, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Lambda Kappa Sigma is open to undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students and practicing pharmacists. Since its establishment in 1913, it has grown to more than 18,000 members, with 44 campus chapters and 36 alumni groups chartered internationally. Its mission is to promote the profession of pharmacy among women and advance women within the profession by developing its members as individuals and leaders through the support of fellow members, while encouraging a high standard of professional ethics and scholarship.
