Stamford-based English Professor Gary Storhoff Dies

Gary Storhoff, associate professor English at the Stamford Campus, died on Nov. 7. He was 63.

Storhoff was born in Duluth, Minn., in 1947, and grew up in North Dakota. He received his BA from the University of North Dakota in 1969, and his MA (1971) and Ph.D. (1975) from the University of Connecticut, where he became a faculty member in 1974.

Storhoff was the author of many publications, including four books and more than 65 articles and chapters in American, African-American, and ethnic literature journals. He received two teaching awards, and also served for two years as assistant to the director at the Stamford Campus.

“We are all very saddened by his death,” said Sharon White, director of UConn Stamford.

Storhoff is survived by his mother, Mildred; his wife of 39 years, Linda; his daughter, Danielle; son, Wesley; and two brothers, Steven and Greg. His ashes will be scattered at his home in Danbury and at his childhood home in North Dakota.
