UConn Men Play Michigan State in Armed Forces Classic

The season opener for men's basketball will take place on Nov. 9 at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, honoring U.S. military personnel and veterans.

UConn will face Michigan State in Germany for the opening game of the 2012-13 regular season on Friday, Nov. 9. The game at the Ramstein Air Base will be televised on ESPN, with coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.

The game is the first in the SEARS Armed Forces Classic, a series of Division I college men’s basketball games to be played on U.S. military bases overseas. The event is timed to take place two days before Veterans Day, honoring military personnel who have served the U.S. in all wars.

While in Germany, players and coaches from both UConn and Michigan State will visit members of the armed forces at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, and will hold a basketball clinic for children at Ramstein Air Base.

The Huskies have three German players on the team: Niels Giffey ’14 from Berlin, Enosch Wolf ’14 from Goettingen, and Leon Tolksdorf ’16 from Berlin.
