A one-day orientation for the University of Connecticut’s incoming public health MPH and Ph.D. students was held at the Health Center Thursday.

The day included information about program requirements, library resources, student organizations, and a meet-and-greet with faculty advisors.

David Gregorio, director of Graduate Programs in Public Health, welcomed the new students and gave a talk about professionalism.

At the end of the day, to help celebrate the coming year, a convocation was held for all of the students, faculty and guests.

The keynote speaker, state senator Terry Gerratana, gave a talk on “Advancing Public Health in CT through Advocacy.” Gerratana is the state senate majority whip and chair of the legislature’s public health committee.

Other convocation speakers included MPH candidate Evan Timme and alumni speaker Linda Estabrook, the executive director of the Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective.
