No. 10 Men’s Soccer Hosts Quinnipiac in NCAA Opener at Morrone Stadium

The No. 10 men’s soccer team opens play in the 2013 NCAA Tournament against Quinnipiac in a first round match on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

Head coach Ray Reid’s squad posted an 11-2-6 record on the season and earned an at-large tournament bid playing a schedule that included five teams selected for the tournament. The Huskies had a 1-1-3 record against those teams.

Freshman midfielder Cyle Larin ’17 (CLAS) leads the Huskies in scoring with 24 points on 11 goals and 2 assists, followed by junior forward Allando Matheson ’15 (CLAS), who had 16 points on 7 goals and 2 assists. Junior midfielder Adria Beso ’15 (CLAS) led in assists with 9. The defense is anchored by All-American goalkeeper Andre Blake ’15 (CLAS), who registered 10 shutouts, giving up just 9 goals on the season for a 0.49 goals against average, along with defenders Sergio Campbell ’15 (CLAS) and Colin Bradley ’16 (CLAS).

The Bobcats earned an NCAA bid as the champions of the MAAC Conference and finished the season with a 9-4-7 record. The team’s leading scorers are senior midfield Simon Hinde, who had 19 points on 9 goals and 1 assist, and junior forward Machel Baker, who registered 10 points on 4 goals and 2 assists. Junior goalkeeper Borjia Angoitia gave up 12 goals on the season with a 0.63 goals against average.

The winner of the game will advance to the second round of the tournament against No. 6 University of Maryland Baltimore County on Sunday.
