The annual Health, Safety and Environment Fair returned for an 11th year Friday, featuring 26 tables, representing mostly areas of the UConn Health community and some partnering vendors.

“We had well over a thousand employees, students and volunteers come through,” says co-organizer Patti Wawzyniecki from the UConn Health Office of Research Safety.

The theme this year was “Hot, Hot, Hot!” and featured a hot-wing-eating contest, sponsored by UConn Health Student Services and local sports bar Sliders.

Other new additions this year included an Environment of Care table, featuring patient safety posters, and a demonstration by Research Safety of a new patient lift for patients with impaired mobility that will be a fixture in the new hospital tower and Outpatient Pavilion.

“We appreciate the support we’ve received from senior administration, and we certainly couldn’t have done it without all the participants, for all their planning, getting there early to set up their tables, and staffing them,” Wawzyniecki says. “We’d also like to thank the UConn pharmacy students who provided blood pressure screenings and body mass index readings.”
