UConn alum and ESPN broadcaster Rebecca Lobo ’95 (CLAS) was featured on the PBS show ‘Finding Your Roots’ with Henry Louis Gates Jr. on Sept. 30.

The episode, ‘Born Champions,’ traces the origins of “three of America’s greatest athletes,” whose ancestors immigrated to the United States to build a new life.

Lobo – who played on the first UConn women’s basketball team to win the national championship in 1995, won a gold medal with the USA Olympic team in 1996, and played with the WNBA from 1997 to 2003 before taking up a career in broadcasting – discovers that her Spanish forebear was forced to flee his country because of his democratic ideals.
