An active mother of three young children, Kathleen Hobin suffered devastating injuries when an elderly driver struck her vehicle.

Kathleen was hospitalized for months before she was referred to the New England Musculoskeletal Institute at the UConn Health Center which has the region’s only bone infection clinic. Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Bruce Browner and infectious disease expert Dr. Edward Pesanti, have been working together for nearly 20 years. They lead a team of specialists who treat patients with the most challenging and difficult problems.

Thanks to the teams’ “never give up” attitude – they saved Kathleen’s leg and prevented her from becoming a double amputee.
