After years of having difficulty speaking because of a damaged vocal cord, Ed Favolise had his voice restored thanks to an unlikely source. After years of having difficulty speaking because of a damaged vocal cord, Ed Favolise had his voice restored thanks to an unlikely source. UConn Health’s Dr. Denis Lafreniere, chief of the Division of Otolaryngology, and Dr. Andrew Chen, chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery, used Favolise’s own fat cells from his abdomen to repair his vocal cord.
