Maxim Budyansky (B.S. mechanical engineering, ‘10), chief technology officer & a co-founder of Avitus Orthopaedics, was featured in the May 2016 edition of Mechanical Engineering magazine, a publication of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In 2010, Budyansky won 1st place in the ASME Old Guard Oral Presentation competition for his talk about his senior design project. In 2011, he earned his M.S. in Engineering, Bioengineering Innovation & Design at Johns Hopkins University. That year, his project team won a $10,000 video competition sponsored by ABC News and the Duke Global Health Institute.
Benjamin Delmonte (B.S. computer science & engineering, ’05) was recognized by the American Legion Hayes-Velhage Post 96 as the 2016 Police Officer of the Year. Recipients of the award are considered the department’s ideal officers. Detective Delmonte joined the West Hartford Police Department in January 2006, graduating from the Police Academy in June 2006 and receiving a Firearms award for perfect scores in all four shooting relays. Using his computer training, Delmonte created a training division system to track officer’s training records and has also developed and published an iPhone app for CT Law Enforcement named CT LAW.
Andrew R. Gere (B.S. civil engineering, ’92) has been appointed president and chief operating officer of San Jose Water Company, an investor-owned water utility serving a population of one million people in Silicon Valley. In his new capacity, Gere has primary and direct responsibility for all San Jose Water Company operating activities including design, development, implementation, reporting and monitoring of key performance metrics, policies, and procedures for the company. He has been with the company for 20 years and earned his MBA from Santa Clara University in 2002.
Brian A. Hoffmann (B.S. mechanical engineering, ’86) was elected vice president and general manager of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Division at AMETEK Aerospace & Defense. Since joining AMETEK in 2005, Hoffmann has served as a divisional vice president and business unit manager for AMETEK Power Instruments in the Power Systems and Instruments Division. Prior to AMETEK, he held engineering, operations and general management roles at Danaher, as well as engineering positions with Cincinnati Milacron. He earned an MBA from Bryant University.
Robert J. Klancko (B.S. Chemical Engineering, ’67) received the prestigious Connecticut Materials Manufacturing Professional of the Year Award. Presented by the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the American Society for Materials International on behalf of the materials engineering technical societies of Connecticut, Klancko was recognized for his lifelong contributions to materials engineering and educating the next generation of manufacturing professionals.
Antonino M. Leone, J.D., P.E. (B.S. Civil Engineering, ‘95) has joined the law firm of Hinckley, Allen & Snyder as a new partner in its Hartford office. Admitted to the bar in Connecticut in 2006, Leone has also worked as a licensed professional structural engineer. He previously worked at the New Haven-based law firm Garcia & Milas. As an engineer, Leone has been responsible for the design and analysis of structural systems and components. As a lawyer, he routinely represents construction clients in litigation, contract drafting, negotiations and employment issues. Leone earned his law degree at UConn in 2006.
Richard A. Mastracchio (B.S. electrical engineering & computer science, ‘82; Hon. D.Sc. ’14) delivered the 2016 commencement for Naugatuck Valley Community College commencement address last month. A Waterbury native and veteran of four spaceflights, Mastracchio currently supports NASA’s Exploration Branch, helping guide development of spacecraft that will someday carry humans on a journey to Mars. He earned an M.S. in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in physical science from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Caitlin Oswald (B.S., M.S. Mechanical Engineering, ’09, ‘14) has joined LAI International, Inc. as an additive manufacturing engineer. She gained her aerospace additive manufacturing credentials from 6 years at Pratt & Whitney leading technical and manufacturing readiness level programs for additive manufacturing and was a project manager for various additive development programs. In March 2016, Oswald was featured in Women in 3D Printing, profiling stories and work of prominent women in the industry. She was a named a Fast Company 2015 Top 100 Most Creative People in Business and received the 2014 Women in Manufacturing STEP Award.
