The University of Connecticut will test its emergency notification and alerting system, UConnALERT, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 12:25 p.m.

The test involves multiple messaging platforms. A notice will be posted on the UConn Alert website (alert.uconn.edu); an email will be sent to all students, faculty, and staff; and posts will appear on the University’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

In addition, cell phone numbers registered with the UConnALERT system will receive text messages. On the Storrs campus only, outdoor sirens will be tested with an audible tone.

Smartphone users who have downloaded the University’s official mobile application, myUConn, will also receive an alert through the app during the test. To download the free myUConn app, visit: https://mobile.uconn.edu/myuconn/

This is the first test that will include UConn Health, as part of an effort to ensure every segment of the University community is informed about critical situations that could endanger health or safety.

A separate communication to UConn Health students, faculty, and staff contains details about how to ensure they receive the UConnALERT messages.

UConn Health’s existing communications process will not change for weather-related closings and cancellations. That information will continue to be updated at: https://health.uconn.edu/closing-and-cancellations

In an actual emergency, information will be updated regularly through the UConn Alert website. Students, faculty, and staff should visit this site to register for cell phone text alerts, update their contact information, and obtain information related to emergency procedures and campus safety.
