Six New Year’s Babies Set Record at UConn John Dempsey Hospital

It's a boy! No, wait ... it's a girl, boy, boy, girl, boy. The half-dozen New Year's Day babies set a record for UConn's hospital.

It was a record day for births on New Year’s Day at UConn John Dempsey Hospital. As of 4:49 p.m. on Jan. 1, six babies had been born.

“It was a very busy day in the maternity unit,” said Carrie Ferrindino, Nurse Manager for Maternal Child Health at UConn Health. “It was amazing to see the level of activity and excitement for the parents.”

The first baby, Matthew Joseph Coss, was born at 1:17 a.m. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 14.2 ounces, and measured 19 inches. His parents, Heather and Joe Coss of Burlington, rang in the new year.

The other births were:

  • 5:42 a.m., Beatrice, a girl, to parents Gratia and William Lee. She weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces, and measured 21 inches.
  • 9:32 a.m., Owen, a boy, to parents Colleen and Rich Greeley. He weighed 7 pounds, 4.9 ounces, and measured 20 inches.
  • 10:55 a.m., Muhammad, a boy, to parents Asmaa and Mohsin Mohsin. He weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces, and measured 19.5 inches.
  • 11:41 a.m., Sofie, a girl, to parents Chris and Alina Heimerdinger. She weighed 7 pounds, 12.3 ounces, and measured 20.5 inches.
  • 4:49 p.m., Caleb, a boy, to parents Breanne and Eric Bernstein. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces, and measured 18 inches.

“We are so thankful for our nurses,” said Ferrindino, “and for the care they provided to the new babies and their moms.”
