Devra Dang Receives the 2026 Dean Robert L. McCarthy Faculty Service Award
The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Dean Robert L. McCarthy Faculty Service award is presented to a full-time faculty member who has provided outstanding service to their department, school, the University, the profession of pharmacy, and the public. This year, the recipient of the distinguished award is Devra Dang (Pharm.D.)

UConn Pharmacy Student Honored with USPHS Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award
One of the top 10 recipients nationwide, out of 85 total recipients, to receive the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award, Aleena Thomas will receive her Pharm.D. and a Master of Public Health from UConn in May. With her passion for helping underserved populations continuing in a post-graduate community-based residency track at Tufts next year, Aleena reflects on the last seven years she’s spent as a Husky.

Serving Communities, Delivering Care: The Health Education Center’s Mission of Healthcare Accessibility
Serving Eastern Connecticut as part of the Connecticut Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Network, the Health Education Center has strengthened the health profession pipeline and provided healthcare access to community members in the Windham, New London, and Tolland counties for more than 30 years. Partnering with UConn Pharmacy, HEC Interprofessional Education (IPE) Health Clinics engage students in their professional years, offering hands-on experience in community health through volunteer opportunities.

The Story of the Century: Harold Katz’s 100 Year Legacy
Turning 100 this August, Harold Katz (B.S.) has lived a lifetime many of us would be fortunate to have. A 1950 graduate of Connecticut College of Pharmacy (now UConn’s School of Pharmacy), Katz is a proud WWII veteran, a life-long pharmacist and drug detail man with an Eli Lilly and Company career spanning 32 years, and a devoted family man.

When Marie Smith (Pharm.D.) isn’t at UConn fulfilling her professor and assistant dean roles, she can be found on a Connecticut legislative workgroup or committee. As a relentless changemaker, Smith’s success is a testament to her ability to transform innovative ideas into meaningful impact.

Alumni Spotlight: Marlon Fuller’s Pursuit of a Better Tomorrow
Marlon Fuller (Pharm.D.) has an ever-growing list of goals. Since graduating from UConn Pharmacy in 2004, Fuller has become a successful pharmacist, keynote speaker, business owner, inventor, author, musician, and the co-founder of a financial literacy nonprofit that has impacted the lives of more than 40,000 kids and parents throughout America. Viewing his ventures as missions to fulfill the purpose he was made for, Fuller’s life story is proof that the best success comes from giving, not from getting.

Two Students from UConn’s School of Pharmacy Honored with Prestigious Award at AIChE’s 2025 Annual Meeting
Two graduate students from UConn Pharmacy, Leila Sharifi and Saeed Najafian, attended the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting in November, where they each received an award. Najafian earned the First Place Academic Award, while Sharifi was honored with the Pharmaceutical Discovery, Development, and Manufacturing (PD2M) Award.

UConn Pharmacy Faculty Member Named ASPET Fellow
Xiaobo Zhong (Ph.D.), Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, has been inducted into the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) 2025 Class of Fellows. Recognized for his efforts in advancing pharmacology through research, mentorship, and service, Zhong joins the prestigious group of 100 researchers from around the world who have been named an ASPET Fellow.

UConn Pharmacy Professor Inducted as Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
Joining UConn in 2007 as a faculty member, Professor of Pharmaceutics, Bodhisattwa Chaudhuri (Ph.D.), was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS) at its 2025 PharmSci 360 meeting on November 9th. A testament to his sustained impact in the pharmaceutical sciences, Chaudhuri was one of only eight fellows selected worldwide.

Celebrating a landmark 150-year legacy, The Connecticut Pharmacists Association (CPA) honored leaders, innovators, and students of the future of pharmacy at their Anniversary Awards Ceremony. This day-long celebration at St. Clements Castle showcased the success of individuals who have remained a strong part of the association’s legacy.

UConn Pharmacy Student Wins Big at National Convention
In his final year at the School, Lahar Miriyapalli put his pharmaceutical knowledge and application skills to the test at the National Pharmaceutical Association/Student National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA/SNPhA) National Convention. Putting himself in the shoes of a medical science liaison and presenting to employees of AstraZeneca, Lahar presented one of their clinical trials professionally and passionately, earning him the first-place award in this skill competition.

Sai Pallavi Pradeep, a fifth-year Pharmaceutical Sciences Ph.D. student, attended the Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society Conference last month. There, she received two prestigious awards: the Travel Award and the Best Poster Award.
