Hartford Magazine<\/em>\u2019s 2015 list of Best Doctors<\/a> in Connecticut includes 53 UConn Health faculty members practicing in such areas as dermatology, geriatrics, surgery, orthopedics, and oncology. The list was drawn from the database of Best Doctors in America, an independent service that offers second opinions online.<\/p>\n

Best Doctors physicians are selected by other doctors as part of a comprehensive review process. Doctors answer questions about diagnosis and treatment plans.<\/p>\n

A recent Wall Street Journal <\/em>article<\/a> on the importance and accessibility of second opinions referenced a study on the use of Best Doctors Inc. Researchers reviewed 6,791 second opinions offered through the service; there were changes in diagnosis 15 percent of the time, and changes in treatment 37 percent of the time. About 60 percent of the patients ended up following the recommendations from the second opinion, according to the study, published in April in the American Journal of Medicine<\/em>.<\/p>\n
