UConn Health was excited to ring in the New Year with the birth of Connecticut\u2019s first baby\u00a0born in 2016, when Nimson Carr arrived at 12:02 am on Jan. 1 at UConn John Dempsey Hospital. He weighed 6 pounds and 1.2 ounces.<\/p>\n<p>Parents Sarah Millard and Alexander Carr of Bristol, Conn. couldn\u2019t have been happier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNimson is wonderful, and absolutely perfect,\u201d said Sarah, overjoyed at the news that her son was Connecticut\u2019s first baby of the New Year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really great,\u201d said Sarah. \u201cIt\u2019s awesome for Nimson to be the first baby of the New Year. It\u2019s incredible and also crazy how much attention we have received.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107977\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107977\" style=\"width: 338px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107977 img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Nimson-Carr-Gift-Basket-Delivery-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Nimson Carr Gift Basket Delivery\" width=\"338\" height=\"254\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Nimson-Carr-Gift-Basket-Delivery-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Nimson-Carr-Gift-Basket-Delivery-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Nimson-Carr-Gift-Basket-Delivery-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Nimson-Carr-Gift-Basket-Delivery-560x420.jpg 560w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 338px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 338\/254;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107977\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>A surprise UConn gift basket was delivered to the Carr Family by Dr. Ramzi Alkass, Nurse Manager Melinda Kindulas, Nursing Director Caryl Ryan, and Jenny Caroon RN of UConn Health.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nimson and his parents were in the media spotlight on New Year\u2019s Day, granting interviews and sharing their joyous experience with local television news stations including: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/story\/30865912\/connecticut-parents-welcome-first-baby-of-2016\">CBS 3<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcconnecticut.com\/news\/local\/Hartford-Hospital-Welcomes-First-Baby-of-2016-363981411.html\">NBC 30<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/fox61.com\/2016\/01\/01\/connecticut-hospitals-deliver-first-babies-of-2016\/\">Fox 61<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In celebration of the milestone at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uchc.edu\/patients\/services\/birthing\/index.html\">UConn John Dempsey Hospital\u2019s Family Birthing Center<\/a> Nimson and his parents were surprised with a gift basket overflowing with baby presents from UConn Health leadership, Nursing Administration, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uchc.edu\/patients\/services\/obgyn\/\">Department of Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology<\/a>, nurses, and also the obstetrician who delivered their son, <a href=\"http:\/\/uconndocs.uchc.edu\/Home\/Physician?profileId=Alkass-Ramzi\">Dr. Ramzi Alkass<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The gift basket included a UConn Husky stuffed animal, UConn baby clothes, bibs, onesies, hats, spoons, baby books such as <em>Goodnight Moon,<\/em> and other newborn necessities like diapers and wipes. \u00a0Also, the basket had UConn gear for the proud parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels great and really nice to be a part of such a special moment in their life,\u201d said Dr. Alkass, assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UConn Health. \u201cThis was my first time delivering a New Year\u2019s baby so close to midnight.
