Introducing Connecticut’s first baby of the New Year, Nimson Carr, born Jan. 1 at 12:02 am.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It\u2019s a boy. UConn Health was excited to ring in the New Year with the birth of Connecticut\u2019s first baby\u00a0born in 2016, when Nimson Carr arrived at 12:02 am on Jan. 1 at UConn John Dempsey Hospital. He weighed 6 pounds and 1.2 ounces.<\/p>\n

Parents Sarah Millard and Alexander Carr of Bristol, Conn. couldn\u2019t have been happier.<\/p>\n

\u201cNimson is wonderful, and absolutely perfect,\u201d said Sarah, overjoyed at the news that her son was Connecticut\u2019s first baby of the New Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really great,\u201d said Sarah. \u201cIt\u2019s awesome for Nimson to be the first baby of the New Year. It\u2019s incredible and also crazy how much attention we have received.\u201d<\/p>\n

A surprise UConn gift basket was delivered to the Carr Family by Dr. Ramzi Alkass, Nurse Manager Melinda Kindulas, Nursing Director Caryl Ryan, and Jenny Caroon RN of UConn Health.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Nimson and his parents were in the media spotlight on New Year\u2019s Day, granting interviews and sharing their joyous experience with local television news stations including: CBS 3<\/a>, NBC 30<\/a>, and Fox 61<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In celebration of the milestone at UConn John Dempsey Hospital\u2019s Family Birthing Center<\/a> Nimson and his parents were surprised with a gift basket overflowing with baby presents from UConn Health leadership, Nursing Administration, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology<\/a>, nurses, and also the obstetrician who delivered their son, Dr. Ramzi Alkass<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The gift basket included a UConn Husky stuffed animal, UConn baby clothes, bibs, onesies, hats, spoons, baby books such as Goodnight Moon,<\/em> and other newborn necessities like diapers and wipes. \u00a0Also, the basket had UConn gear for the proud parents.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels great and really nice to be a part of such a special moment in their life,\u201d said Dr. Alkass, assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UConn Health. \u201cThis was my first time delivering a New Year\u2019s baby so close to midnight. A special thanks to the nurses, especially Lina Godfrey RN whose hard work helped make this special moment happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the delivery Dr. Alkass and Nurse Godfrey were assisted by staff nurses Deb Junkins RN, Danielle Kinney RN, and Teri Stratton RN, along with Resident Dr. Emily Mills.<\/p>\n
