UConn\u2019s Planning Architectural &amp; Engineering Services Department had 46 projects on its summertime to-do list. About 30 of those were wrapped up by the time students moved in.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the recent notable projects that are at or near completion:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2016\/08\/nextgen-hall-welcomes-first-students-this-week\/\">Next Generation Connecticut Hall<\/a>,<\/strong> a new multi-story, 727-bed dormitory complex that will house eight Living &amp; Learning Communities, as will include community gathering places, seminar rooms, and a &#8216;maker space&#8217; to encourage innovation across disciplines.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fuMzP4aJ4zg\">Putnam Refectory dining hall<\/a>, <\/strong>which is undergoing renovations to increase its seating capacity and improve self-service buffet areas, making room for students who will live in the new Next Generation Connecticut Hall nearby.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"grey-sidebar floating-sidebar col-xs-12 col-sm-4\">\n  <\/p>\n<h3>Adding Up The Work<\/h3>\n<p>600 personnel in the field<br \/>\n350,000 square feet of new or renovated space<br \/>\n100 offices, 20 classrooms opened<br \/>\n40 sites under construction<br \/>\n5 miles of utilities repaired or replaced<br \/>\n4 miles of construction fencing<br \/>\n1.35 million square feet (about 23.5 football fields) of grounds restored<br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2016\/07\/major-infrastructure-work-underway-uconn\/\"><strong>Replacement of the utility infrastructure<\/strong><\/a> on North Eagleville Road, including upgrades to steam, water, and electrical systems to ensure reliable services supporting buildings and student and faculty needs. Upon completion of the utility work, targeted for September, new trees will be planted, lawns restored, sidewalks upgraded, and three new seating areas \u2013 two at the Towers residences and one at the Dairy Bar \u2013 will be installed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work that will continue this year:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2016\/05\/innovation-partnership-building-marks-construction-milestone\/\"><strong>Innovation Partnership Research Building<\/strong><\/a> on Discovery Drive, the first facility in UConn\u2019s Technology Park, which began in 2015. When it is completed in fall 2017, the building will feature two specialty laboratories\u00a0housing state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation that will enable UConn researchers to readily partner with industry scientists.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2016\/07\/uconn-marks-construction-milestone-new-engineering-complex\/\"><strong>Engineering &amp; Science Building<\/strong><\/a> on Glenbrook Road. The new building will house high-performance laboratories for research in such fields as bio-nano engineering, cyber-physical systems engineering, and chemical engineering. Completion is targeted for summer 2017.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2015\/09\/student-recreation-center-site-selected\/\"><strong>Student Recreation Center <\/strong><\/a>on Hillside Road.
