{"id":125929,"date":"2017-05-15T06:01:23","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T10:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=125929"},"modified":"2017-05-15T06:22:16","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T10:22:16","slug":"uconn-named-top-producer-fulbright-scholars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2017\/05\/uconn-named-top-producer-fulbright-scholars\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Named a Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Connecticut is\u00a0among the top 10 producers of Fulbright Scholars from research institutions this year.<\/p>\n<p>The University has seven Fulbright Scholars on its faculty who will be teaching and performing research around the world in the 2016-17 academic year, according to the U.S. Department of State\u2019s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The Fulbright Program is the government\u2019s flagship international educational exchange program. Scholars are selected for their academic merit and leadership potential, with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program operates in more than\u00a0125 countries. The\u00a0following UConn faculty will be pursuing\u00a0Fulbright projects abroad:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carol Auer, professor emeritus of plant science and landscape architecture, will lecture and perform research into \u201cAdvancing Biosecurity and Bioethics Knowledge in Ecuador\u201d\u00a0at the University of San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador.<\/li>\n<li>Alexis Dudden, professor of history, will lecture about \u201cEast Asian Context for Maritime Issues and the U.S.-Korea Alliance\u201d\u00a0at Yonsei University in South Korea.<\/li>\n<li>Kathryn Knapp, associate professor of English, will lecture about \u201cThe Contemporary American Bildungsroman in the Age of Decline\u201d at Vilnius University in Lithuania.<\/li>\n<li>Engineering Professor Radenka Maric, UConn&#8217;s new vice president for research, will\u00a0research \u201cDurable Cathodes for High Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) and Hydrogen Separ\u201d\u00a0at Politenico Di Milano in Italy.<\/li>\n<li>Bandana Purkayastha, professor of sociology, will lecture and perform research on \u201cWater, Inequalities, and Rights\u201d at University of Hyderabad in India.<\/li>\n<li>Nathaniel Trumbull, associate professor of geography, will lecture and perform research on \u201cBest Practices of Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants in Russia and the U.S.: Regional, Social and Economic Dimensions\u201d at\u00a0Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University in Russia.<\/li>\n<li>Steven Wisensale, professor of public policy, will lecture on \u201cA Comparative Analysis of Japanese-U.S. Policies\u201d at Yokohama City University in Japan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Fulbright Program is funded through an annual appropriation by the United States Congress to the Department of State.
