{"id":127373,"date":"2017-06-29T10:52:34","date_gmt":"2017-06-29T14:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=127373"},"modified":"2017-06-29T10:52:34","modified_gmt":"2017-06-29T14:52:34","slug":"wnba-connecticut-sun-teams-uconn-health-doctors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2017\/06\/wnba-connecticut-sun-teams-uconn-health-doctors\/","title":{"rendered":"WNBA Connecticut Sun Teams with UConn Health Doctors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/sun.wnba.com\/\">WNBA Connecticut Sun<\/a> has named a few <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/patient-services\/orthopedics-sports-medicine\">UConn Health Orthopedics &amp; Sports Medicine <\/a>doctors as team physicians for its professional women\u2019s basketball players.<\/p>\n<p>UConn Health\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Coyner-Katherine\">Dr. Katherine Coyner<\/a>, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine expert, has been named the new Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon. In addition, sports medicine specialist <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/find-a-provider\/physician\/Hall-Matthew\">Dr. Matthew Hall<\/a> will be the team\u2019s primary care provider, while concussion expert <a href=\"http:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Alessi-Anthony\">Dr. Anthony Alessi <\/a>who directs the UConn Neurosport Program will serve as the team\u2019s consulting neurologist.<\/p>\n<p>The team physicians hailing from UConn Health will provide care for the players on- and -off the court including at every WNBA Connecticut Sun home game at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville.<\/p>\n<p>The new WNBA Connecticut Sun team physicians are faculty of UConn Health Orthopedics &amp; Sports Medicine. It offers comprehensive, cutting-edge orthopedic and sports medicine care services for the prevention and treatment of orthopedic injuries and conditions for more than 26,000 patients annually. Its clinical services span prevention, physical therapy, rehabilitation, minimally invasive procedures and orthopedic surgery care.<\/p>\n<p>UConn Health\u2019s team of sports medicine doctors care for many professional athletes and more than 700 UConn student-athletes with UConn Athletics. UConn Health physicians have served as professional sport team doctors for the New York Yankees, NFL Players Association, U.S.A. Hockey, U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Open Tennis Championships, New York Islanders, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, CT State Boxing Commission, the CT Black Wolves Men\u2019s Lacrosse, and other sporting organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur UConn Health Orthopedics &amp; Sports Medicine experts are honored to be named new team doctors for the WNBA\u2019s Connecticut Sun and also provide our excellent, advanced musculoskeletal medicine care to its talented athletes,\u201d said <a href=\"http:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Mazzocca-Augustus\">Dr. Augustus D.
