He\u00a0has an illness known as eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic condition that causes inflammation of the esophagus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited to join the team. I\u2019ve met most of the guys and I am happy to be here,\u201d said Bruening, who said he plays midfield.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant coach Andrew Parker welcomed Bruening\u00a0to the program, offering him a UConn jersey, hat and soccer scarf as his first official team gear as a member of the Huskies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re happy to have Maddox as part of our team,\u201d said Parker. \u201cWe know he will offer us way more than we could ever offer him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After he signed his official letter, Bruening answered\u00a0questions from his teammates &#8211; including one who asked whether he had a\u00a0favorite player.
