Through his high school involvement in 4-H, the youth outreach program with a focus on agriculture, Daniel Munch got to know UConn professors and was impressed by the strength of UConn\u2019s College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources<\/a> (CAHNR).<\/p>\n

\n

UConn is really a close-knit community. You always have access to your professors and can build friendships with your peers. It\u2019s a school where opportunities exist no matter your interest. <\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Once at UConn, his advisor told him about the Individualized Major<\/a> program, in which students can customize their own plan of study. Munch combined courses in animal science, political science, and resource economics to create his approved major.<\/p>\n

\u201cI liked that I was able to gear my studies toward what I wanted to do,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Munch is a CAHNR Ambassador<\/a> and also mentors freshmen in the Introduction to Animal Science class, helping them train chickens for an annual department show.<\/p>\n

Munch added a second major in resource economics to prepare himself to one day run a business in the pet sustainability industry, and is considering pursuing further education in food marketing and policy.<\/p>\n
