{"id":131393,"date":"2017-11-07T15:55:01","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T20:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=131393"},"modified":"2017-11-09T10:40:50","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T15:40:50","slug":"uconn-alum-malfettone-speaks-corporate-compliance-competitive-advantage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2017\/11\/uconn-alum-malfettone-speaks-corporate-compliance-competitive-advantage\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Alum Malfettone Speaks About Corporate Compliance as a Competitive Advantage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>John Malfettone &#8217;77<\/strong>, senior managing director and chief compliance officer at Clayton, Dubilier, and Rice, spoke to 100 students and alumni about &#8220;Corporate Compliance as a Competitive Advantage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Malfettone described the role of a chief compliance officer within the corporation, from the routine, such as ensuring regulatory compliance, to the intriguing, such as overseeing &#8216;whistleblower&#8217; programs,&#8221; said MBA candidate <strong>Allegra Klein<\/strong>. &#8220;His cautionary tales of cyber-security breaches and CEOs convicted of fraud made for a fascinating and memorable evening.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Malfettone drew on his experience working for New York-based Clayton, Dubilier and Rice, one of the oldest and a Top 10 leveraged buyout private equity firm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Compliance is a vitally important practice, and John&#8217;s presentation showed vividly that compliance is not just a &#8216;cost center&#8217; but also a source of value for any organization,&#8221; said business law professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business.uconn.edu\/person\/robert-bird\/\"><strong>Robert Bird<\/strong><\/a>, who organized the Oct. 30 event at the Graduate Business Learning Center in downtown Hartford.<\/p>\n<p>Malfettone earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting, magna cum laude, from UConn in 1977.
