(Garrett Spahn\/UConn Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The lighting was in support of the Alzheimer&#8217;s Foundation of America&#8217;s &#8220;Light the World&#8221; initiative. Nearly 200 landmark structures participated in last year&#8217;s initiative.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through the participation of organizations such as yours, we were able to literally shine a spotlight on Alzheimer&#8217;s disease and the impact it has on families around the globe,&#8221; said Charles Fuschillo, Jr., president and chief executive officer.<\/p>\n<p>Alzheimer\u2019s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and eventually the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. In most people with Alzheimer\u2019s,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nia.nih.gov\/health\/alzheimers\/symptoms\">symptoms<\/a>\u00a0first appear in their mid-60s.
