{"id":131542,"date":"2017-11-10T08:12:01","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T13:12:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=131542"},"modified":"2023-06-27T13:06:46","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T17:06:46","slug":"athletics-earns-rising-graduation-rate-score-fourth-straight-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2017\/11\/athletics-earns-rising-graduation-rate-score-fourth-straight-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletics Earns Rising Graduation Rate Score for Fourth Straight Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UConn Athletics posted an overall Graduation Success Rate of 89 percent in 2017, the NCAA announced on Wednesday. This is the fourth year in a row that there has been an increase in the total score. The UConn score is also two points above the national Division I average.<\/p>\n<p>The GSR shows the percentage of student-athletes earning a degree within six years of entering college. The 2017 numbers are based on entering classes from 2007 to 2010.\u00a0The NCAA developed the GSR to account for student-athletes not tracked by the federal graduation rate, which includes transfers into UConn and student-athletes who transferred from UConn in good academic standing.<\/p>\n<p>Five UConn athletics teams posted perfect GSR scores this year, and a total of 13 Husky squads performed at 90 percent or higher,<\/p>\n<p>Teams that earned a GSR score of 100 percent included women\u2019s basketball and field hockey, a pair of squads that have combined to win 15 national championships; they were joined by men\u2019s and women\u2019s tennis and volleyball.<\/p>\n<p>Eight teams improved upon last year\u2019s score, including the men\u2019s basketball team, which registered a GSR score of 67 percent, up from 22 percent last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Student-Athlete Success Program staff and our coaches continue to foster a culture of academic success, and our student-athletes have embraced this fully while continuing to perform at elite levels in competition,\u201d director of athletics <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uconnhuskies.com\/genrel\/david_benedict_1007070.html\">David Benedict<\/a> said. \u201cGraduating our student-athletes is and always will be a priority for the UConn Division of Athletics, and this continuing trend of improvement in the Graduation Success Rates is a direct result of that emphasis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the five teams that garnered perfect GSR scores, eight programs posted scores of 90 percent or better, including women\u2019s cross country and track &amp; field (91 percent), women\u2019s ice hockey (93 percent), women\u2019s lacrosse (96 percent), women\u2019s soccer (92 percent), softball (94 percent), women\u2019s swimming (95 percent), baseball (95 percent), and men\u2019s ice hockey (90 percent).<\/p>\n<p>The football team garnered a score of 80 percent, which was an improvement on last year\u2019s 76 percent mark.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With an overall Graduation Success Rate of 89 percent, the UConn score is two points above the national Division I average.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":58,"featured_media":131552,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_crdt_document":"","wds_primary_category":0,"wds_primary_series":0,"wds_primary_attribution":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1712,2225,2234],"tags":[],"magazine-issues":[],"coauthors":[117],"class_list":["post-131542","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-athletics","category-uconn-storrs","category-university-life"],"pp_statuses_selecting_workflow":false,"pp_workflow_action":"current","pp_status_selection":"publish","acf":[],"publishpress_future_action":{"enabled":false,"date":"2026-05-09 07:15:43","action":"change-status","newStatus":"draft","terms":[],"taxonomy":"category","extraData":[]},"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/posts\/131542","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/users\/58"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=131542"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/posts\/131542\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":131555,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/posts\/131542\/revisions\/131555"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/media\/131552"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=131542"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=131542"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=131542"},{"taxonomy":"magazine-issue","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/magazine-issues?post=131542"},{"taxonomy":"author","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-rest\/wp\/v2\/coauthors?post=131542"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
