Professor Guozhen Lu of the Department of Mathematics has been named a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (AMS).<\/p>\n
The honor recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics, according to the Society. The 2018 Class of Fellows comprises 63 eminent mathematicians drawn from institutions worldwide.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is such an honor to be elected as a Fellow of the AMS,\u201d says Lu. \u201cI am grateful for the encouragement and recognition my peers and the AMS have given to\u00a0me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lu joined the UConn faculty in 2016 and is an\u00a0expert in the field of mathematical analysis. In naming him a Fellow, the AMS cited his contributions to harmonic analysis and partial differential equations and his service to the mathematical community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the kind of achievement that raises UConn\u2019s prestige and visibility nationwide,\u201d says Ambar Sengupta, professor and head of the Department of Mathematics.<\/p>\n
Lu received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University\u00a0and was a Bateman Instructor at Caltech. He taught at Wayne State University before he joining the UConn faculty. He\u00a0has published more than 130 papers on topics such as\u00a0geometric inequalities, harmonic analysis, and partial differential equations.\u00a0He was awarded a Simons Fellowship from the Simons Foundation in 2015.<\/p>\n
