{"id":137373,"date":"2018-05-03T10:34:39","date_gmt":"2018-05-03T14:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=137373"},"modified":"2018-05-03T10:35:37","modified_gmt":"2018-05-03T14:35:37","slug":"national-honors-uconn-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2018\/05\/national-honors-uconn-health\/","title":{"rendered":"National Honors for UConn Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>UConn Health\u2019s latest national awards and appointments include:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92585 alignleft img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/fortinsky.jpg\" alt=\"fortinsky\" width=\"116\" height=\"151\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 116px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 116\/151;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Fortinsky-Richard\">Dr. Richard Fortinsky<\/a><\/strong>, professor in the Department of Medicine and the UConn Center on Aging, has been selected by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/\">National Institutes of Health<\/a> to serve as chairperson of its Community-Level Health Promotion Study Section in the <a href=\"https:\/\/public.csr.nih.gov\/aboutcsr\/Pages\/default.aspx\">NIH\u2019s Center for Scientific Review (CSR)<\/a>. His one-year term begins in July. CSR&#8217;s key mission is to see that NIH grant applications receive fair, independent, expert, and timely reviews so the most promising research can be funded. Fortinsky\u2019s new role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the national biomedical research effort. He was selected for his scientific achievement evidenced in the quality of his research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities.<\/p>\n<p>Fortinsky is also the recipient of the 2018 Leader in Advancing Research Award for his dedication to the Alzheimer\u2019s Association. The award recognizes his outstanding leadership and tireless efforts in addressing and raising awareness of the advancement of research. The program provides leadership development opportunities for teams of researchers and community partners, including community organizers and advocates. The unique biomedical career training program is committed to training the next generation of healthcare providers in research. \u201cCongratulations,\u201d said Dr. Marja M.
