{"id":137897,"date":"2018-05-16T09:54:13","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T13:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=137897"},"modified":"2018-05-16T09:56:29","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T13:56:29","slug":"landscape-alumni-put-interests-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2018\/05\/landscape-alumni-put-interests-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Landscape alumni put their interests to work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Recently ranked as one of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebestcolleges.org\/rankings\/10-best-landscape-architecture-programs\/\">10 Best Landscape Architecture Programs for 2018<\/a>, CAHNR\u2019s landscape architecture course also prepares many for successful careers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Landscape architects with a degree from UConn may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but they are quite good at making functional and attractive spaces\u00a0<em>outside<\/em>\u00a0buildings around the world.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/plantscience.uconn.edu\/People\/Faculty\/Westa.php\">Mark Westa<\/a>, an associate professor in plant science and landscape architecture (PSLA), thinks these alumni have acquired landscape architecture (LA) \u201csuper powers,\u201d such as drawing, creativity and problem-solving, in order to help them in their careers.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to fostering super powers, this nationally accredited, professional degree\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/plantscience.uconn.edu\/Students\/Undergrad\/Landscape_Architecture.php\">LA program<\/a>\u00a0makes it possible to combine the pursuit of varied interests within one major. Most beginning LA students have inclinations toward at least two of these:\u00a0<strong>artistic<\/strong>\u00a0expression,\u00a0<strong>constructing<\/strong>\u00a0things that have lasting value, interacting with many different types of\u00a0<strong>people<\/strong>or\u00a0<strong>enhancing both the built and natural environments<\/strong>, according to Westa.
