{"id":138190,"date":"2018-05-23T06:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-05-23T10:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=138190"},"modified":"2018-05-24T16:30:39","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T20:30:39","slug":"department-natural-resources-environment-overview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2018\/05\/department-natural-resources-environment-overview\/","title":{"rendered":"The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment: an overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As evidenced by the name, faculty in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) focus on management and conservation of our planet\u2019s limited natural resources, including earth\u2019s water and climate system, air quality, forests, fisheries and wildlife resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur departmental research mission statement is to contribute to the solution of environmental problems, to increase understanding of natural resources systems and to enhance the wise and sustainable management of these resources,\u201d says\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrme.uconn.edu\/Faculty_and_Staff\/Vokoun.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jason Vokoun<\/a>, associate professor and interim department head.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to offering undergraduate and graduate science degrees in natural resources, the department participates in the multidisciplinary, multi-departmental environmental science and environmental studies degrees. \u201cOur department is heavily invested in these majors, and our course offerings feature prominently,\u201d Vokoun notes.
