It is important to recognize that maintaining good health is more than just highlights during a month of heightened awareness; it is a lifelong journey. It is a good reminder for women to continually look for opportunities to further build and enhance a healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>These tips will help you move toward better health:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>See your health care provider for a well-woman visit (checkup), preventive screenings, and vaccines.<\/li>\n<li>Get active.\n<ul>\n<li>Move your body for 20 to 30 minutes daily.<\/li>\n<li>Find something that works for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Eat healthy.\n<ul>\n<li>Stop dieting, and change your mindset toward food.<\/li>\n<li>Eat a sensible diet daily that includes lean proteins, healthy fats, smart carbs, and fiber.<\/li>\n<li>Drink plenty of water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Pay attention to your mental health.\n<ul>\n<li>Manage stress.<\/li>\n<li>Get enough sleep.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Practice safe behaviors.\n<ul>\n<li>Quit smoking.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t text while driving.<\/li>\n<li>Protect yourself from sexually-transmitted diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI recommend that women schedule annual appointments with their health care providers,\u201d says Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/find-a-provider\/physician\/Alkass-Ramzi\">Ramzi Alkass<\/a>, director of the UConn Health Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology. \u201cAt these appointments, we typically discuss pertinent topics including contraception management as well as any specific patient concerns.
