{"id":155905,"date":"2019-10-25T16:43:56","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T20:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=155905"},"modified":"2019-10-25T16:43:56","modified_gmt":"2019-10-25T20:43:56","slug":"pilg-auction-offers-fun-support-great-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2019\/10\/pilg-auction-offers-fun-support-great-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"PILG Auction Offers Fun to Support a Great Cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"node-news-article-full-group-body-location\" class=\"group-body-location field-group-div\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden view-mode-full\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>A brewery tour, a football signed by the New York Jets and dinner and a Star Wars movie with Assistant Dean Karen DeMeola are among the more than 100 items that will be up for bid on Nov. 1, 2019, at the 27th Annual PILG Auction, a fundraiser to support the work of UConn Law students for public interest agencies and organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which will feature both live and silent auctions, is the main fundraiser of the year for the law school\u2019s student-run Public Interest Law Group. All proceeds from the auction will fund stipends for students working in the public interest. \u00a0In the past, PILG fellowships have allowed students to work at organizations such as Greater Hartford Legal Aid and the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPILG fellowships not only make it financially possible for UConn law students to work at public interest organizations that they are passionate about, but also symbolize the fact that an entire legal community made up of students, faculty, staff, local practitioners, and more believe in the work they are accomplishing as advocates of diverse and marginalized communities,\u201d said Amy Saji, president of the Public Interest Law Group.<\/p>\n<p>Donations are still welcome, and can be made by emailing Sydnee Sousa (<a href=\"mailto:sydnee.sousa@uconn.edu\">sydnee.sousa@uconn.edu<\/a>) for an in-kind donation, or with monetary support via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/raise.uconn.edu\/?cfpage=project&amp;project_id=30410&amp;t=1571767744\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Ignite campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Reading Room in William F. Starr Hall on the UConn Law campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
