The No. 3 University of Connecticut field hockey team (18-3) captured its eighth-straight Big East Tournament Championship with a 2-0 win against No. 18 Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.<\/p>\n
Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player Svea Boker\u00a0scored a pair of third quarter goals to lift the Huskies to its 18th\u00a0Big East Tournament title.<\/p>\n
It was the sixth time\u00a0this\u00a0season that the senior tallied multiple goals in a contest. The Big East Offensive Player of the Year has totaled a team-high 20 goals on the year.<\/p>\n
Goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher recorded her second shutout of the tournament and her ninth of the season to record Big East All-Tournament team status. Sprecher was joined by Boker, Sophie Hamilton, Antonia Tiedtke, and Maddy Wray.<\/p>\n
With the win, the Huskies earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 31st time in program history and 18th straight.<\/p>\n
UConn will now host the First and Second Rounds of the 2019 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex this upcoming weekend.<\/p>\n
The No. 2 seeded Huskies face the winner of the play-in game between Fairfield and American on Friday, Nov. 15 at 12 p.m. while the other side of the bracket matches up Princeton against Syracuse at 2:30 p.m..The NCAA Second Round is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. The winner of that game moves on to the NCAA Final Four in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Nov. 22 and 24.<\/p>\n
The Huskies have qualified for 18\u00a0straight NCAA Tournaments. UConn has won three NCAA Championships in the last six seasons.<\/p>\n
