{"id":156928,"date":"2019-12-06T15:01:44","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T20:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=156928"},"modified":"2019-12-30T13:01:53","modified_gmt":"2019-12-30T18:01:53","slug":"holle-named-isopp-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2019\/12\/holle-named-isopp-fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"Lisa Holle Named ISOPP Fellow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lisa Holle, Pharm.D., BCOP, FHOPA, Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice has been named a Fellow by the International Symposium of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP). The honor was bestowed on Holle during the British Oncology Pharmacy Association\u2019s annual symposium held in London this past October. Holle, who is currently serving as the ISOPP\u2019s treasurer, is only the 11<sup>th<\/sup> person to have received this honor.<\/p>\n<p>The ISOPP Fellowship Award recognizes excellence in oncology pharmacy practice. It provides recognition and promotes global awareness of pharmacists who have distinguished themselves in the field. Holle is currently serving as the ISOPP\u2019s treasurer,<\/p>\n<p>At the symposium, Holle presented the results of her ISOPP research grant entitled, <em>Can Spinners Improve Understanding of Adverse Events in Patients with Cancer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In her research, Holle explains that cancer patients with low numeracy may be at a disadvantage because they tend to overestimate adverse event risks, or to ignore numbers completely while relying on their emotions to sway decision making related to the treatment of their disease.<\/p>\n<p>She says, \u201cWe evaluated an innovative method of presenting numerical information about chemotherapy adverse event risks to assist in decision making.
