{"id":159455,"date":"2020-03-31T06:15:53","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T10:15:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=159455"},"modified":"2020-03-30T08:19:43","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T12:19:43","slug":"uconn-test-storrs-emergency-sirens-april-1-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/03\/uconn-test-storrs-emergency-sirens-april-1-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn to Test Storrs Emergency Sirens on April 1, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Georgia',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The University of Connecticut will test the emergency sirens on its Storrs campus at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Georgia',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The sirens are part of UConn\u2019s emergency notification system, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/alert.uconn.edu\/\">UConnALERT<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, in which cell phones registered with the system receive text messages during emergencies and when business operations are impacted by weather closings and significant class schedule alterations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Georgia',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The text message system will not be used during the April 1 test of the Storrs sirens. Although the testing begins at 11 a.m., some or all of the sirens are expected to be activated several times to assess their function and volume.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Georgia',serif;\">In an actual emergency, information will be updated regularly through the UConnALERT website.
