{"id":160663,"date":"2020-05-13T07:39:32","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T11:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=160663"},"modified":"2020-05-13T08:23:27","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T12:23:27","slug":"uconn-choirs-go-virtual-old-connecticut-alma-mater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/05\/uconn-choirs-go-virtual-old-connecticut-alma-mater\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Choirs Go Virtual with &#8216;Old Connecticut&#8217; Alma Mater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of performances in School of Fine Arts venues, the UConn Choirs shifted to creating video performances as part of their online instruction.<\/p>\n<p>Two virtual performances of the UConn Chamber Singers drew nearly 20,000 views \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2GHSM3FAtSE\">Abendlied, Op. 69\/3 (Evening Song)<\/a>,&#8221; a sacred motet by Josef Rheinberger, and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xwGVleul_9A\">That Lonesome Road<\/a>,\u201d an a capella composition by five-time Grammy winner James Taylor from his 1981 recording \u201cDaddy Loves His Work,\u201d which drew praise from Taylor on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UConn?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Uconn<\/a> Chamber Singers version of &#8220;Lonesome Road&#8221; will have you feeling all the feels. &#x2764;&#xfe0f; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vkj7Dc2Yql\">https:\/\/t.co\/vkj7Dc2Yql<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 James Taylor (@JamesTaylor_com) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JamesTaylor_com\/status\/1258175477199536130?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>During a virtual meeting of the School of Fine Arts leadership, there was a suggestion to have the choirs work on a virtual performance of \u201cOld Connecticut,\u201d also known as \u201cUConn Alma Mater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Spillane, director of choral studies, brought the idea to the UConn Choirs students.
