UConn Health and its faculty have been applauded on the national stage for their accomplishments. The most recent accolades include:<\/p>\n

Dr. Marja Hurley elected to Positions within Multiple Associations <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"Dr. Marja, Hurley, <\/strong><\/a>Professor of Medicine and Orthopedics, has been elected 2020 Chair of the Oversight Board of the National Institutes of Health\/ National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Network of Minority Research Investigator (NMRI).\u00a0 <\/strong>She has also been elected into membership in the Association of Osteobiology.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NMRI<\/strong> was established 20 years ago and continues to encourage minority health investigators to conduct research in areas related to the NIDDK\u2019s<\/strong> mission, including diabetes; endocrinology; metabolism; digestive diseases; nutrition; and kidney, urologic, and hematologic diseases; to promote two-way communication between the NIDDK and NMRI members, to recommend strategies to support and advance underrepresented individuals and others in biomedical research and advance scientific knowledge and contribute to reducing and eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities.<\/p>\n

Association of Osteobiology<\/strong> was founded by Dr. Louis Avioli over 21 years ago with the goals of advancing scientific knowledge related to bone biology by fostering academic exchange between leaders in the bone field in United States and other counties. Membership in this prestigious group is very limited and is by election only. Dr. Hurley was inducted at the Association\u2019s annual dinner meeting held in Orlando, FL.<\/p>\n

Laura Haynes, Ph.D. earns Specialty Chief Editor role for \u201cFrontiers in Aging\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

\"\"Professor of Immunology at the UConn Center on Aging, Laura Haynes, Ph.D.,<\/strong><\/a> accepted a newly-created position as Specialty Chief Editor for Aging and the Immune System<\/strong>, a specialty section of the journal \u201cFrontiers in Aging\u201d<\/strong>. Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience is a leading journal in its field, publishing rigorously peer-reviewed research that advances our understanding of the mechanisms of Central Nervous System aging and age-related neural diseases.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bulsara elected to Society of Neurological Surgeons<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Ketan Bulsara<\/strong><\/a> was elected to the Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS)<\/strong>. The SNS is the premier, senior academic neurosurgical organization. Founded by Dr. Harvey Cushing, its active membership is limited to only 220 members, which is only approximately 5 percent of neurosurgeons in the United States.<\/p>\n

Dr. Laurencin Receives a Convergence Award for Research in Interdisciplinary Centers <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"The Connecticut Convergence Institute is proud to announce that the Office of the Vice President for Research recently approved Dr. Laurencin\u2019s<\/a> <\/strong>proposal for the Convergence Awards for Research in Interdisciplinary Centers (CARIC) entitled Convergence Center for Regenerative Engineering- A Science and Technology Center.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new center will advance the science and engineering foundations of tissue regeneration such that the ultimate goal of whole-limb regeneration is within reach. The goal of the center is to establish an infrastructure that can forge new areas through long-term multi-institutional relationships and allows experts in various disciplines to explore innovative approaches to new challenges through considerable financial support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
