{"id":164763,"date":"2020-09-30T14:09:12","date_gmt":"2020-09-30T18:09:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?post_type=school-college-post&#038;p=164763"},"modified":"2021-04-28T15:41:06","modified_gmt":"2021-04-28T19:41:06","slug":"conscious-carpel-tunnel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/09\/conscious-carpel-tunnel\/","title":{"rendered":"Conscious During Carpel Tunnel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With &#8220;wide-awake surgery,&#8221; UConn Heath&#8217;s hand, wrist and elbow surgeons use a technique that keeps the patient awake, enabling the testing of the repair while the procedure is in progress and resulting in less down time and discomfort.<\/p>\n<p>Drs. <a href=\"http:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/find-a-provider\/physician\/Parrino-Anthony\">Anthony Parrino<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/find-a-provider\/physician\/Ferreira-Joel\">Joel Ferreira<\/a>\u00a0learned this surgical approach during their fellowship training, and the former UConn orthopedic surgery residents brought it back to UConn Health when they joined the faculty.
