{"id":165606,"date":"2020-10-27T08:30:45","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T12:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=165606"},"modified":"2020-10-27T08:11:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T12:11:56","slug":"social-work-faculty-earn-uconn-research-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/10\/social-work-faculty-earn-uconn-research-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Work Faculty Earn UConn Research Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four UConn School of Social Work faculty members received funding to support their projects under two major internal award programs from the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR).<\/p>\n<p>Michael Fendrich, professor and associate dean for research, was awarded a $50,000 grant for his project, \u201cTailoring a Mindful Intervention to Enhance Opioid Treatment Outcomes in a Community Program,\u201d through the highly selective <a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/10\/ovpr-announces-research-excellence-awards\/\">Research Excellence Program (REP)<\/a>. Crystal Park of the Department of Psychological Sciences and Elizabeth Russell of Human Development and Family Sciences, both in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, are co-principal investigators on the project.<\/p>\n<p>According to OVPR, \u201cthe primary goal of the REP is to provide seed funding to fuel innovative research, scholarship, and creative endeavors with strong potential for significant extramural funding and\/or achievements consistent with the highest standards of accomplishment in the discipline. Multi-PI, interdisciplinary projects are encouraged, with the goal of adding to UConn\u2019s reputation for innovative research, scholarship, and creative activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three School of Social Work faculty members received <a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/10\/ovpr-announces-scholarship-facilitation-fund-awards\/\">Scholarship Facilitation Fund<\/a> awards, through which the OVPR provides up to $2,000 to UConn faculty across all disciplines, on a competitive basis, to promote, support, and enhance research, scholarship and creative endeavors.<\/p>\n<p>The faculty and their projects are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scott Harding, associate professor; co-director of the Ph.D. program: \u201cRisk, Vulnerability and the Limits of Choice: Home Care Workers\u2019 Views on COVID-19\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Kathryn Libal, associate professor; director, UConn Human Rights Institute: \u201cIndexing Support for Contributory Volume on Beyond Borders: The Human Rights of Non-Citizens at Home and Abroad\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Nathanael Okpych, assistant professor: \u201cHow Campus Support Programs for Students with Foster Care Histories Adapt to the Covid-19 Pandemic\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For a full list of recent REP recipients and SFF recipients, <a href=\"https:\/\/ovpr.uconn.edu\/services\/research-development\/internal-funding-opportunities\/internal-funding-recipients\/\">visit the OVPR website.<\/a> The next cycle for both awards is currently open. Applications for the SFF program are due December 1, 2020.
