{"id":165667,"date":"2020-12-31T07:15:28","date_gmt":"2020-12-31T12:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=165667"},"modified":"2021-06-28T10:03:17","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T14:03:17","slug":"uconn-magazine-playing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/12\/uconn-magazine-playing\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Magazine: Playing Through"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Among the many ways that parents are finding to entertain and educate their children at home during this strange time is one that\u2019s been around for almost 100 years, what those who work at Lego simply call \u201cthe brick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t plan for years like 2020,\u201d says Meghan Hall \u201908 (CLAS), the Lego Group\u2019s senior director of digital marketing in the Americas, \u201cbut adults and kids, during the pandemic, are all rediscovering Lego building as a relaxing, fun family play experience.\u201d Parents also are looking for activities for their kids that encourage independent play and that aren\u2019t digital, says Hall, considering all the distance learning kids are doing on screens. \u201cLego provides a solution to both of those needs,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Hall has no problem selling the Lego experience, pandemic or no. \u201cIt really does feel like the easiest job in the world,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>New hires at Lego get a crash course in the company\u2019s creative play mission of \u201cbuild, unbuild, rebuild\u201d through a series of play exercises, one of which is called \u201csix bricks,\u201d says Hall. \u201cThe number of combinations you can make with six simple bricks is something in the millions.
