Thirteen UConn Law alumni have been elected\u00a0to the Connecticut Bar Foundation\u2019s\u00a0James W. Cooper Fellows Program\u00a0in recognition of their service to the profession and the community.<\/p>\n

“We are pleased to recognize our new Fellows for\u00a0their\u202f distinguished\u00a0services to the legal profession and their commitment to the principles of equal\u00a0justice\u202f and\u00a0the rule of law,” Connecticut Bar Foundation President Timothy Diemand said.<\/p>\n

The foundation\u2019s Board of Directors selected 35 new fellows in 2021, including these UConn Law graduates:<\/p>\n

  • Bonnie Amendola\u00a0’92, Founder of Amendola & Amendola, LLC.<\/li>\n
  • Jenn Bourn\u00a0’04,\u00a0director of legal services\u00a0at State of Connecticut, Division of Public Defender Services.<\/li>\n
  • Meghan M. Sweeney Burns\u00a0’10,\u00a0attorney at Ruel\u00a0Ruel\u00a0Goings & Britt.<\/li>\n
  • Michelle M. Duprey\u00a0’93, deputy corporation counsel for employment litigation for the City of New Haven.<\/li>\n
  • Thamar Esperance-Smith\u00a0’11, assistant attorney general at the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General.<\/li>\n
  • Karyl Lee Hall\u00a0’91, staff attorney with the Connecticut Legal Rights Project.<\/li>\n
  • Patricia King\u00a0’83, corporation counsel for the City of New Haven.<\/li>\n
  • Hon. Vernon D. Oliver\u00a0’97,\u00a0judge of\u00a0the Superior Court of Connecticut.<\/li>\n
  • Hon. Maureen Price-Boreland\u00a0’92,\u00a0judge of\u00a0the Superior Court of Connecticut.<\/li>\n
  • Leonard Rodriguez\u00a0’94,\u00a0deputy general counsel\u00a0at Avangrid Networks, Inc.<\/li>\n
  • Kelly A. Scott\u00a0’11,\u00a0member at Pullman & Comley LLC.<\/li>\n
  • Evan J. Seeman\u00a0’09,\u00a0counsel at\u00a0Robinson+Cole\u00a0LLP.<\/li>\n
  • Karen M. Sills\u00a0’06,\u00a0vice president and corporate counsel\u00a0in Prudential\u2019s Retirement Law Group,\u00a0Prudential Financial, Inc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The\u00a0James W. Cooper Fellows Program, now in its\u00a026th\u00a0year,\u00a0promotes\u00a0a better understanding of the legal profession and the judicial system among the\u00a0citizens\u202f of\u00a0Connecticut and\u00a0explores\u00a0ways to improve the profession and the administration of justice. The Program is named in honor of James W. Cooper, who served as president of the CBF from\u00a01973\u202f to\u00a01975.<\/p>\n

    In addition to lawyers in private practice,\u00a0the\u00a0group consists of U.S. Court of Appeals judges;\u00a0U.S.\u202f District Court judges;\u00a0Connecticut Supreme, Appellate, and Superior Court judges;\u00a0corporate counsel;\u202f attorneys in non-profit associations and legal services agencies;\u00a0and government lawyers.\u00a0The\u202f program\u00a0also includes law school deans, former deans, and professors of law, past and\u00a0current\u202f leadership\u00a0of the Connecticut Bar Association and other bar associations, and present and\u00a0former\u202f government\u00a0leaders.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
