{"id":170978,"date":"2021-04-08T15:32:43","date_gmt":"2021-04-08T19:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=170978"},"modified":"2021-04-08T15:32:43","modified_gmt":"2021-04-08T19:32:43","slug":"raman-bahal-selected-for-aaup-excellence-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2021\/04\/raman-bahal-selected-for-aaup-excellence-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Raman Bahal Selected for AAUP Excellence Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UConn chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) has selected <a href=\"https:\/\/pharmacy.uconn.edu\/person\/raman-bahal\/\">Raman Bahal, Ph.D.<\/a>, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics, to be co-recipient of the AAUP 2020-2021 Excellence in Research and Creativity, Early Career award.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am obliged to receive this prestigious award,&#8221; says Dr. Bahal. &#8220;I want to thank the AAUP selection committee, my nominator department chair Dr. Jose Manautou and Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutics, Dr. Diane J Burgess, and other faculty members for endorsing me. I am very grateful to my lab members and collaborators who persistently work hard on meaningful projects with vast biomedical applications. I am very fortunate to be part of the UConn family. Finally, I would like to acknowledge my family&#8217;s support and especially my beautiful two children, Janvi and Govind, who enthuse me with new energy every day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It gives me great joy that Raman Bahal\u2019s efforts in scholarship are being recognized with the AAUP Excellence in Research and Creativity Award,&#8221; says Jos\u00e9 Manautou, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. &#8220;Raman\u2019s young trajectory as an independent scholar has been quite impressive. Since arriving at UConn in 2017, he has submitted an unprecedented number of grant proposals, 90 in total as principal or co-principal investigator. This remarkable effort has certainly paid off. Up to this date, his total extramural support is slightly over $5,000,000.<\/p>\n<p>Raman has published thirty-nine articles in prominent peer-reviewed journals, such as the<em> Journal of American Chemical Society<\/em>, <em>Nature Communications<\/em>, <em>Journal of Controlled Release<\/em> and <em>Journal of Clinical Investigation<\/em>.\u00a0We are very proud of Raman\u2019s scholarship accomplishments. His future as an academic scientist is certainly bright and one of further growth, given his steady and strong incremental trajectory since joining our department.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bahal earned his B.Pharma from Punjabi University and went on to the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) to achieve his MS Pharma. He then went on to complete his doctorate degree in Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University, followed by post-doctorate work at Yale University in the Department of Therapeutic Radiology.<\/p>\n<p><em>The recognition of faculty teaching, research, and service excellence through UConn-AAUP awards began in 1997.\u00a0 The intention is to acknowledge academic excellence within the university.
