Robinson Actuary of Tomorrow award\u00a0in 2021.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Sai\u00a0Manasani,\u00a0Eleanor Willis and James Petersen\u00a0turn their passion for\u00a0mathematics\u00a0into helping families by\u00a0using math, statistics and financial theory to predict future events and financial risks.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actuarialfoundation.org\/scholarships\/stuart-robertson-scholarship\/\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Stuart A. Robertson Actuary of Tomorrow award<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0recognizes the achievements of undergraduate students who are pursuing a career in actuarial\u00a0science, and\u00a0includes a scholarship of up to $10,000. The award is named for Stuart A. Robertson, a successful actuary who dedicated his practice to helping businesses worldwide.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cI like to study actuarial science because of how limitless it is,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Manasani\u00a0\u201922 (CLAS), also\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clas.uconn.edu\/student-leadership-board\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">CLAS\u00a0Student Leadership Board\u00a0ambassador<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">. \u201cI wanted a career that encompassed all those fields of study and actuarial science allowed me to do that.\u00a0Actuaries indirectly help ensure a family\u2019s financial stability in the event of a catastrophic event. Being able to provide people with this type of protection through the various insurance roles is extremely fulfilling.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;The work actuaries do is challenging and dynamic, which excites me,&#8221;\u00a0added\u00a0Willis\u00a0\u201922 (CLAS). &#8220;As an actuary, there is the potential to work in a wide variety of roles, including executive leadership teams.\u00a0It is exciting that there is so much growth potential throughout your career.&#8221;<\/span> <span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Willis said not only is the information she learned from classes and internships\u00a0interesting,\u00a0but she enjoys the problem-solving that comes with taking actuarial exams.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Since the start of the Stuart A. Robertson Actuary of Tomorrow award in 2006, 11 UConn students have received this award,\u00a0said\u00a0James Trimble, director of the\u00a0actuarial science program\u00a0at UConn.\u00a0<\/span> <span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Petersen, \u201922 (CLAS),\u00a0said the award helps him financially and pushes him to succeed.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;The Actuarial Program at UConn does an amazing job of teaching its students about the career field and how to have success as an\u00a0actuary,&#8221;\u00a0Petersen\u00a0said. &#8220;Many of the faculty in our program are or were practicing\u00a0actuaries, so their industry experience is incredibly valuable.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;Since UConn is one of the best actuarial schools in the country and is also in close proximity to Hartford, we have many industry connections that allow actuarial students to gain meaningful work\u00a0experiences\u00a0before we even graduate,&#8221;\u00a0Mansani\u00a0added.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;I\u2019ve had the opportunity to intern at four different companies during my time here at UConn. That\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0have been possible without\u00a0the\u00a0speaker series through\u00a0the\u00a0UConn Actuarial Society\u00a0(UAS), the annual Actuarial Career Fair, and of course the awesome professors that prepare us for our careers as actuaries.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Mansani,\u00a0Petersen\u00a0and Willis\u00a0also\u00a0participated in\u00a0actuarial clubs and events that have helped create connections and opportunities for internships.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;I was ecstatic and so honored to have received it alongside some very accomplished actuarial students,&#8221;\u00a0Mansani\u00a0said. &#8220;It means so much to be able to connect this award back to one of my very first experiences with the actuarial program at UConn.
