{"id":179965,"date":"2021-12-09T16:02:15","date_gmt":"2021-12-09T21:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=179965"},"modified":"2023-06-27T12:42:35","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T16:42:35","slug":"uconn-ms-care-earns-elite-national-designation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2021\/12\/uconn-ms-care-earns-elite-national-designation\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn MS Care Earns Elite National Designation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UConn Health is among an elite group of health care facilities recognized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as having a Center for Comprehensive MS Care.<\/p>\n<p>The honor acknowledges the UConn Health Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Center for its commitment to high-quality care and wealth of knowledge, experience, and attention to detail in treating people living with MS.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n  <p>We care for a vulnerable and diverse population of patients who often face additional challenges beyond their disease, such as socio-economic, access to care, and multiple comorbidities.  <cite> &#8212 Dr. Jaime Imitola<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to partner with Dr. Imitola and the entire MS Center clinic team to enhance high-quality, dedicated care for people in Connecticut living with MS,\u201d says National MS Society Connecticut-Rhode Island Chapter President Marcia Maslo. \u201cIn earning this recognition, UConn Health\u2019s MS and Neuroimmunology Center has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in MS care and joins the ranks of outstanding MS Centers impacting the lives of the nearly 1 million people living with MS in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maslo and other representatives from the National MS Society formally presented the distinction to <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/find-a-provider\/physician\/Imitola%20Herrera-Jaime\">Dr. Jaime Imitola<\/a>, director of UConn Health\u2019s Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Translational Neuroimmunology, and his team last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis certainly is a prestigious honor, and it affirms what we\u2019ve known for several years now, which is, UConn Health\u2019s MS Center is a tremendously valuable public resource,\u201d Imitola says. \u201cWe are tackling the most significant unmet needs in MS in our state from clinical care to cutting-edge research. We care for a vulnerable and diverse population of patients who often face additional challenges beyond their disease, such as socio-economic, access to care, and multiple comorbidities. It disrupts the flow of information within the brain between the brain and the rest of the body. The symptoms vary and can include numbness and tingling, walking difficulties, fatigue, dizziness, pain, depression, blindness, and paralysis.
