Tell us a little bit about your experience in Hawaii. For starters, why did you choose the Multicultural Psychology Studies program?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

I was excited when seeing this opportunity posted by UConn, as I wanted to explore the diversity and cultures of Hawaii. Once there, spending time with my cohort was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.<\/p>\r\n

What unique Experiential Global Learning opportunities did you encounter during your time in Hawaii?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Our group was able to bond over the various foods and experiences Hawaii had to offer, learnt about one another’s cultures, and developed a tight bond. Our cohort also attended guided museum tours on the topics of royalty, artistic expression, and learnt much about the unique history of the island.<\/p>\r\n

What’s your biggest takeaway from this program?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

From my experience in Hawaii, I take with me the appreciation for how people throughout the island embrace their cultural background and their expression of who they are. Being in that diverse environment, interacting with locals, tourists, and even some students from the University of Hawaii, I found myself growing through their perspectives on life and the world around us.<\/p>\r\n

Are there any tips you’d give for future students participating in an Experiential Global Learning program or those who are just starting to think about joining one?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

My advice for any student interested in the program is to, first, schedule some time with an EGL advisor and gauge your interests!\u00a0Secondly, spend time exploring and appreciating the diversity and cultures you may represent, as it is an important perspective that helps you better understand the topics learnt in the program.\u00a0Finally, keep an open mind and open heart when exploring as a visitor, making sure you have respect for the area you visit!<\/p>\r\n
