Sean Jeffery, Pharm.D. (\u201995 BS), Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice at UConn\u2019s School of Pharmacy, has announced his candidacy for President Elect of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). Jeffery is also director of pharmacy at Hartford HealthCare\u2019s Integrated Care Partners, helping create new possibilities for pharmacists within outpatient medical practices.<\/p>\n

Jeffery earned his Pharm. D. from the Ohio State University in 1997 and completed then specialized in geriatric pharmacy by completing a residency at the Durham Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center and Duke Center for the Study of Aging in 1998.\u00a0 He returned to UConn in 1998 to start an ambulatory geriatric practice at the West Haven VA Medical Center.\u00a0 His practice at the VA was a popular rotation for pharmacy students.\u00a0 He also developed a geriatric pharmacy residency program while at the VA and for many years was the residency program director for VA Connecticut.<\/p>\n

As a pharmacist, Jeffery has always been active in professional associations.\u00a0 His service to the profession has resulted in leadership positions across multiple organizations.\u00a0 In 2019 Jeffery was elected to a three-year term on the American Pharmacist Association (APhA) Board of Trustees.\u00a0 As a Trustee, he helped guide APhA in responding to the pandemic.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, Jeffery was president of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists\u00a0 in 2012 and served as acting CEO of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists in 2013-14 during a CEO search.<\/p>\n

Jeffery\u2019s bid for the APhA presidency comes at a challenging time for the profession. \u201cNever before have pharmacists been so vital to the lives of Americans as during the pandemic where hundreds of millions of vaccinations were managed, distributed and delivered by pharmacists, he said. \u00a0\u201cAt the same time, never before have America\u2019s pharmacists faced such challenging workplace environments.\u00a0 I am passionate about finding new ways for pharmacists to better integrate into the nation\u2019s health care system, expanding opportunities, creating new pharmacist jobs, and, as a professor, exciting future generations of pharmacists about the profession.\u201d<\/p>\n
