A devoted advocate for inclusivity, Brianna is passionate about making the world a better place.

What’s your major and why did you choose it?

My major is Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies with a minor in Urban and Community Studies. I chose to major in WGSS because of the focus the program has on social justice, activism, and advocacy through an intersectional lens. The WGSS program provided me with the necessary critical framework needed, and the foundation for, my success as I continue into service-driven fields.

What are your plans after graduation?

My plan after graduation is to join the next cohort of students within the UConn Master’s of Public Administration program. Here, I plan to focus my time on furthering my knowledge about nonprofit management, public policy, diversity, and inclusion. My goal after completing my master’s is to work for an LGBTQIA+ nonprofit!

What activities were you involved with as a student?

I’m grateful to have been a part of so many different communities throughout the duration of my undergrad. I’ve been working at the Rainbow Center for the past three years, which has introduced me to some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. I’ve undertaken as team leader of the FAMILEE Mentoring Program, am currently in my second semester of the WGSS internship program, on the e-board of Creating Caring Communities, a member of the CLAS Women’s Leadership Collective, and a previous member of Generations Connect!

How has UConn prepared you for the next chapter in life?

Being at such a large school such as UConn, it’s hard to put yourself out there. However, that’s exactly what I needed. I needed to challenge myself and push myself to be involved in different areas across campus all while getting to know new people!

Any advice for incoming first-year students?

Don’t be too hard on yourself. College is a time when you’re supposed to make mistakes. I wish I had learned sooner that my worth isn’t deemed by how well I do academically. Take the time to try and enhance other skills and embrace new opportunities! Also, it’s okay to ask for help!

What’s one thing every student should do during their time at UConn?

I could never name just one, so I’ll narrow it down to a few. Explore every opportunity UConn has to offer and take advantage of resources! Go to an event hosted by each cultural center, visit Horsebarn Hill, attend the block party at least once, join a club, etc.!

Who was your favorite professor and why?

I’ve had many professors that were incredible, however, my favorite professor was definitely Mick Powell. Mick was not only an amazing teacher, but a wonderful mentor as well. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met and truly wanted to see me succeed. If you have the opportunity to take a class with her, by all means, please do!

What’s one thing that will always make you think of UConn?

I will always have UConn on my mind thanks to the wonderful friends, professors, and mentors I’ve met that I hope to keep in touch with for a lifetime!

[1
[117
post-184206","post","type-post","status-publish","format-quote","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","post_format-post-format-quote
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
