{"id":185692,"date":"2022-05-12T09:40:33","date_gmt":"2022-05-12T13:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=185692"},"modified":"2022-06-14T09:24:38","modified_gmt":"2022-06-14T13:24:38","slug":"uconn-health-joins-short-list-of-centers-of-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2022\/05\/uconn-health-joins-short-list-of-centers-of-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Health Joins Short List of \u2018Centers of Excellence\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UConn Health is now considered a \u201cCenter of Excellence\u201d for maternity care, knee replacement\/revision, lumbar spine fusion, and lumbar laminectomy.<\/p>\n<p>For patients enrolled in state employee and retiree health plans, it means the highest-available cash incentives for choosing UConn Health for these services.<\/p>\n<p>For UConn Health, it\u2019s a third-party acknowledgement of quality and cost-effective care.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n  <p>The Center of Excellence designations affirm UConn Health\u2019s steadfast focus on patient-centered, high-quality, and affordable care.<br \/>\n <cite> &#8212 Dr. Bruce T. Liang<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Connecticut Office of the State Comptroller, which administers the state health plans, has identified providers, hospitals, and health care groups in the state that meet specific quality standards for certain services. Those meeting those standards are considered \u201cProviders of Distinction,\u201d and the elite among them exceeding those standards earn the \u201cCenter of Excellence\u201d designation.<\/p>\n<p>Plan members who choose a \u201cProvider of Distinction\u201d earn a cash incentive for the associated service. Those who choose a \u201cCenter of Excellence\u201d are eligible for a larger incentive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy prioritizing quality of care, and avoiding costly complications, we\u2019re able to better support patients and help grow Connecticut\u2019s health care sector,\u201d says Comptroller Natalie Braswell. \u201cAs administrator of the state health plan, my office is combatting long-term cost growth by preventing catastrophic illness and the consequences of inadequate care, like post-surgical infections and readmissions. I\u2019m grateful for the partnerships we\u2019ve established in the Providers of Distinction program and congratulate UConn Health and the other newly designated Centers of Excellence. It\u2019s my hope that, by elevating the most talented doctors, hospitals, provider groups and other medical institutions, that we can lower costs and make Connecticut the health care capital of the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The idea is to encourage members to choose providers offering competitively priced services that will result in improved patient outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Center of Excellence designations affirm UConn Health\u2019s steadfast focus on patient-centered, high-quality, and affordable care,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/about\/leadership\">Dr. Bruce T. Liang<\/a>, interim CEO of UConn Health. \u201cWe are proud to be a partner in the state\u2019s initiative further elevating the quality and value of health care for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comptroller\u2019s office describes the Center of Excellence designations as part of the next phase of the state\u2019s value-based care payment program for hundreds of thousands of state employees and retirees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing recognized as a Center of Excellence for many of the common orthopedic procedures that we offer is an affirmation that we are living up to the high expectations that we set for ourselves and will serve as the ever-growing base that we use to build upon as we care for our patients and innovate going forward,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/find-a-provider\/physician\/moss-isaac\">Dr. Isaac Moss<\/a>, director of the UConn Musculoskeletal Institute.<\/p>\n<p>More than 340 providers throughout the state have \u201cProviders of Distinction\u201d status.
