Treating patients, learning about medicine, and being able to train other health care providers in the military led me on a path towards pursuing medicine as a physician. I joined for a wide array of reasons. Traveling, cool training, and a sense of adventure were some primary motivators. The benefits to pay for schooling were also strong reasons for joining.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_192297\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-192297\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-192297 img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/221110-Jordan-Dean-White-Coat-Photo-2-1000x1250-1-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"Jordan Dean in student white coat\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/221110-Jordan-Dean-White-Coat-Photo-2-1000x1250-1-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/221110-Jordan-Dean-White-Coat-Photo-2-1000x1250-1-819x1024.jpg 819w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/221110-Jordan-Dean-White-Coat-Photo-2-1000x1250-1-768x960.jpg 768w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/221110-Jordan-Dean-White-Coat-Photo-2-1000x1250-1-336x420.jpg 336w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/221110-Jordan-Dean-White-Coat-Photo-2-1000x1250-1-532x665.jpg 532w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/221110-Jordan-Dean-White-Coat-Photo-2-1000x1250-1.jpg 1000w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 240px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 240\/300;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-192297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jordan Dean is an Air Force veteran and second-year medical student at UConn.
