{"id":19250,"date":"2014-09-26T14:03:09","date_gmt":"2014-09-26T14:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/?p=19250"},"modified":"2025-01-28T21:53:27","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T02:53:27","slug":"sandy-crosthwaite-retires-after-22-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2014\/09\/sandy-crosthwaite-retires-after-22-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Sandy Crosthwaite Retires After 22 Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After 22 years of keeping the School of Engineering\u2019s finances on track, Sandy Crosthwaite retired Sept. 25.<\/p>\n<p>Joined by her family, Crosthwaite was honored for her service in the position of Executive Assistant to the School at an afternoon reception at the\u00a0Information Technologies Engineering Building.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19251\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19251\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/image1-e1411748516367.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19251 size-full img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/image1-e1411748516367.jpg\" alt=\"Sandy Crosthwaite\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 200\/200;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19251\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sandy Crosthwaite<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Several of her co-workers spoke fondly of Crosthwaite, who worked with six deans\u00a0during her tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Provost and Executive Vice President. for Academic Affairs\u00a0Mun Choi praised Crosthwaite for her dedication to\u00a0the School.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has been a consummate professional and she takes her work very seriously,&#8221; Choi said. &#8220;She is\u00a0someone who has made the university better than when she found it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that her legacy of contributing to the culture of professionalism will carry beyond her tenure at UConn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when you come 22 years from now, and I\u2019m still sitting in my office, I hope, we\u2019re going to say &#8216;You made an important contribution.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>School of Engineering\u00a0Associate Dean Mike Accorsi said that, while many lauded Crosthwaite for her financial acumen,\u00a0it was her loyalty that stood out for him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to thank you for your commitment to the School and the people in the School,&#8221; he said.\u00a0&#8220;Sandy is probably one of the best advocates for the people in the School of Engineering, and we all thank you for that, Sandy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Accorsi\u00a0also thanked for her some very practical advice she gave him.\u00a0 Shortly\u00a0after he was appointed\u00a0head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department in 2006, Accorsi attended his first academic council meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must have been pretty green, and Sandy noticed that,&#8221; Accorsi said. &#8220;The meeting went pretty well, but after the meeting, she pulled me aside and said \u2018Mike, you\u2019ve gotta ask the dean for money \u2013 everybody else does!\u2019 So Sandy, thank you for that advice.
