{"id":194902,"date":"2023-02-02T12:43:02","date_gmt":"2023-02-02T17:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=194902"},"modified":"2023-02-02T13:57:21","modified_gmt":"2023-02-02T18:57:21","slug":"uconn-to-host-cannabis-research-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2023\/02\/uconn-to-host-cannabis-research-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn to Host Cannabis Research Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Connecticut will hold a <a href=\"https:\/\/uconnuecs.cventevents.com\/event\/f341fc77-2a55-4f3a-84e0-692b1b6341e4\/summary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">symposium on cannabis March 16 and 17, 2023<\/a> at the main campus in Storrs. Topics covered will include cannabis genetics and biology, clinical applications of cannabis, enhancing cannabis production, cannabis law, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium aims to create a space for scientists, scholars, students, and the business community to connect and share information on the emerging field of cannabis research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUConn has been a leader in cannabis research for some time,\u201d says interim vice president for research S. Pamir Alpay. \u201cWe are hopeful that this conference will serve as a nexus for conversation and networking between industry and academia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UConn made waves in 2019 when it announced it would offer the nation\u2019s first university class on the fundamentals of cannabis horticulture. Researchers at the state\u2019s flagship university also conduct innovative research focused on micropropagation, molecular genetics, economics of cannabis, human health impact, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The university also supports technology commercialization and workforce development related to the cannabis industry.<\/p>\n<p>Along with several panels, a plenary talk will be given by preeminent cannabis scholar Aron Lichtman from Virginia Commonwealth University.
